Hi,

Here is a Simple Demonstration of using Silent Mode for Installing WebLogic Server in Unix and Windows Boxes. Silent-mode installation is a way of setting installation configurations only once and then using those configurations to duplicate the installation on many machines. During installation in silent mode, the installation program reads the settings for your configuration from an XML file that you create prior to beginning the installation.

Silent-mode installation works on both Windows and UNIX systems.

Some points before we start with Silent Mode of Installations:

Point-1). The installation program does not display any configuration options during the installation process, So u must collect the Licence Agreement and terms & Conditions Documents in advance.

Point-2). Silent Mode of Installation is not available for NetInstallers. So u can use only package Installers.

Point-3). U can use any Package Installer according to your Operating System/Hardware Architecture like: “Jar Installer”   or “executable” Installers  (*.bin or *.exe)

Point-4). Silent-mode installation requires the same amount of temporary disk space and uses the same temporary storage directories as a standard installation.

Point-5). Incorrect entries in the silent.xml file can cause installation failures. So it is always recommend that you create a log file when you start the installation. using (-log option)

Point-6). The XML definition (<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>) must be at the very beginning of the silent.xml template file, without any preceding space or line breakes in it.

Silent Installation Steps:

Step1). Download the WebLogic Installer  … and put it in some directoy.

Exapmle:  /opt/softwares/server103_solaris32.bin

Step2). Now write the “silent.xml” file like following with your own values:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
<bea-installer>
<input-fields>
<data-value name="BEAHOME" value="/opt/app/bea103" />
<data-value name="USER_INSTALL_DIR" value="/opt/app/bea103/wlserver_10.3" />
<data-value name="WLW_INSTALL_DIR" value="/opt/app/bea92mp3/workshop_10.3" />
</input-fields>
</bea-installer>

Note: You can additionally define the other subcomponents which you want to Install along with Plain Installation like:
<data-value name=”COMPONENT_PATHS” value=”WebLogic Server|WebLogic Workshop” />
or
<data-value name=”COMPONENT_PATHS” value=”WebLogic Portal/Portal Examples|WebLogic Portal/WebLogic Workshop Portal Extension” />

For more details on this please refer to: http://download-llnw.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13196_01/platform/docs81/install/silent.html

Step3). Now use the following command to Install the WebLogic on your box:

Unix Platform:

chmod a+x  server103_solaris32.bin

For Executable Installers:
server103_solaris32.bin -mode=silent -silent_xml=/opt/softwares/silent.xml -log=/opt/softwares/Installation_silent.log

or

For Jar Installers:
java -jar server103_solaris32.jar -mode=silent -silent_xml=/opt/softwares//silent.xml -log=/opt/softwares/Installation_silent.log

Windows Platform:

For Executable Installers:
server103_windows32.exe -mode=silent -silent_xml=C:optsoftwaressilent.xml -log=C:optsoftwaresInstallation_silent.log

or

For Jar Installers:
java -jar server103_windows32.jar -mode=silent -silent_xml=C:optsoftwaressilent.xml -log=C:optsoftwaresInstallation_silent.log
